Cooking at Nursery

Cooking and baking provide a wealth of learning opportunities for children. Developing knowledge of the different ingredients, enjoying trips to the supermarket to identify and buy different foods and finally pulling it all together to make a variety of yummy snacks and treats!
Early math’s skills are put into practice by counting and weighing the different ingredients. Mathematical vocabulary is introduced, ‘more or less’, ‘heavier or lighter’ and gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination are developed with actions such as pouring, scooping and mixing. Through chopping fruit and vegetables children start to develop important muscles and tool control whilst learning about nutritious, healthy foods.
Whether it’s baking cakes for one of our charity sales or trying new healthy foods, our children love to get involved in cooking activities at nursery!
